A short, but interesting theory. We've seen Sapphire float, and Rose Quartz slow herself when coming toward the grounds after leaping. We've also seen Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl leap to heights impossible for a human to replicate. Aside from the simple explanation of "gem magic", what might be the real reason they are able to do this?
I might have an explanation for gems floating

Someone pointed out that this might be why ruby sunk in keystone motel, she could have been adjusting herself to the water as if it were an atmosphere
If gems could adjust this ability consciously, they could manipulate this to be able to float
