I wonder why Steven is able to tame corrupted gems and other gems haven't been able to. Perhaps he simply has the patience necessary. Maybe his small stature and the fact that he doesn't look like a gem and his gem isn't always showing helps gem creatures become more comfortable with him. Maybe they still remember what they fought to protect, humans.
