• Hey, It's That Voice! #38: Jackie Buscarino

Hello and welcome back to "Hey, It's That Voice!", where we get to peek behind the curtain of animation to see what else the voice actors have done! Today, we will be looking at the voice of Beach City's coolest mom, Vidalia!

Now I will admit, I am being a little biased when I call Vidalia the coolest mom in Beach City. After all, who's to say that Barb isn't awesome? Or Nanefua (cause she is the mom of Kofi, after all)? And of course the gems are doing a good job at the whole 'mom' thing. But Vidalia, in my opinion, one of the coolest character's in Steven Universe. She used to be a punk rocker who became a great mom to both of her kids, letting them be themselves. And while she still considers herself a troublemaker, she's a good friend to Greg and to Amethyst. All in all, Vidalia is kind of just amazing. But who is the voice behind this former bad girl? Why, that would be Jackie Buscarino!

Vidalia and Yellowtail got some serious moves.

Born in Los Angeles, California on September 11, 1977, Jacqueline Buscarino got her start in animation behind the animation in production. Her first work was a production assistant for Spongebob Squarepants from 2001 until 2003. She would continue production work for cartoons, particularly for Cartoon Network. In 2002, she worked on Whatever Happened to... Robot Jones?, before moving on to Dexter's Laboratory (2002-2003), The Powerpuff Girls (2003-2004 as production co-ordinator), Camp Lazlo! (2005-2006 as production co-ordinator), and Chowder (2007-2008 as production manager). While working at Chowder, she also was a song performer for one of the series' songs ("Tan Gai"). In 2008, Buscarino joined the crew of The Marvelous Msadventures of Flapjack as a member of the story, contributing to sixty episodes of the show. In 2009, Buscarino became the producer of G.I. Joe: Resolute. The next year, she joined the writing and story crew on Disney's Fish Hooks for the first season. During this time, she wrote and directed her own short called Go Tell Ricky Scrotum. She also worked on Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja where she worked as a line producer for the first season. Currently, she is a producer for Steven Universe, where she also voices the amazing Vidalia.

It's great that we talked about her producing work, in fact a number of you readers can say that Buscarino helped form your early years with the cartoons she helped create. But what about her voice work? Well, dedicated Cartoon Network fans can recognize a few of her roles.

Flapjack (series creator Thurop Van Orman) and Sally Syrup (Buscarino) in The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack

Buscarino's first major role was providing various voices for The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack including Ms. Leading and Sally Syrup (pictured above with the title character).

Susan Strong (Buscarino) holding Finn (Jeremy Shada) and Jake (John DiMaggio) in Adventure Time.

Fans of Adventure Time may recognize Buscarino as the voice of Susan Strong among various others (including the simply adorable Cute King).

    Pacifica Northwest in Gravity Falls.

Another big role that Buscarino had was as Pacifica Northwest in Gravity Falls. She also does a number of various other voices in the show. She also contributed to other cartoons such as China, IL, Rick and Morty, Uncle Grandpa, and Harvey Beaks.

And that will do it for this edition of "Hey, It's That Voice!" Join me next timem when we take a look at the voice behind Connie's father!
