• Fan Theory: Who Did Pearl Belong To?

If there's one thing that's been danced around almost as much as White Diamond, it's who Pearl's previous owner was. It's been mentioned a few times in the show that Pearls belong to someone when they live on Homeworld, and it's been confirmed that this is still the case, especially when we see the pearls of the Diamonds. So why has her previous owner been kept so under wraps? What is the Crewniverse hiding? And who do you think she belonged to?

the 3 most popular theories seem to be that she belonged to either white diamond, pink diamond or rose. i think rose is extremely unlikely to be her assigned master, but i think the other two theories are both correct. im gonna examine some proof for both below and later share my theory.
first, why a diamond and not some other gem? aside from the fact its much more interesting, lets look at the evidence, for i think theres already some. first we have the comment by peridot, upon closer inspection she deemed pearl “fancy”. it hints she at least had to serve some higher ranked gem. but what really betrays her origin to me is the first scene in the moonbase. the stairs suspiciously activated right when pearl got near them, suggesting they reacted to a pearl that belonged to the only gems that were allowed to enter the sanctum. to quote peri, ‘the most elite of the elite. we are literally walking in the footsteps of the diamonds!’
(of course it could have been peri who activated the stairs, but, seriously, the timing on pearls approach is reeeeeally suspicious… remember that in animation every movement is deliberate; what other reason to make pearl approach the stairs late, way after everyone else is by them?)
the grand question is, which diamond. first, evidence with white. the most incriminating thing is of course the gem placement and our pearls color. we have seen that the diamond pearls have their gems exactly where their owners do, also their skin color/general tint is colored after their diamond (its probably a thing with custom made pearls intended for a specific person. elite stuff i imagine). also, if my prediction is correct that white is obsessed with order as a gem largely responsible for the entire hierarchy (perhaps is on the autism spectrum like p too), then we have a similarity between the diamond and her pearl, which also seems to be a thing.
plus, just imagine them meeting again. jeez. thats gonna be tense…
now pink. theres a lot of incriminating stuff here too. imo the heaviest one is pink diamond on her space outfit as well as on sardonyx’ shoes:

her hair used to be pink too, but it looks like she can change her hair color along with clothing (that or it might be purely a matter of day time) but theres something else about the hair - its shape is similar to pink diamonds hair:

in fact if you remove the top part of pinks hair it just looks like pearls new hairstyle:

and possibly another thing - the stairs that reacted to her were in pink diamonds base, tho it might be that they would react to any diamond and her pearl.
serving under pink diamond would also allow pearl to easier come in contact with rose and possibly spend some time with her, which could lead to her rebelling later. also, pearl being “chatty” can also fit with the probably sanguine personality of pink, but the gem placement remains an issue.
so. theres a lot of stuff that suggests pearl was close to the pink court and actually served pink, but her gem makes it look like she was whites. based on this i came up with a mixed theory that also nicely explains some other elements of pearls character: her oval pearl and the defective label.
my general idea is this: our pearl was originally made for white. however, white deemed her defective and rejected her, all because of her oval gem shape. white wanted a perfect pearl, perfect according to her ideals, the same ideals that claim jasper is a perfect quartz. so, pearls fate probably looked pretty grim at this point. i imagine she had a lot of resources and effort put into her as a pearl intended for white diamond herself, but being a rejected product, there was nothing to do with her. too expensive to be given away to someone else but not perfect enough to be accepted by her diamond. and heres where rose and pink diamond can come in. i think rose could have convinced her diamond to take pearl in, that, or pink herself decided pearl is a fun unique toy she wants to add to her collection (for i believe pink had a thing for collecting interesting things, such as humans in a zoo…) so pink made puppy eyes and asked white to let her take the pearl. white, being a phlegmatic wimp easily charmed by her beloved baby sister, of course gave in. and not like she had anything else to do with the pearl… and so began pearls servitude in the pink court. thats where she met rose and decided she would rather follow her…
i think this can explain how despite her gem being imperfect p could have served a diamond. also it explains her ‘defective’ label and makes it nicely fit with amethysts defectiveness (i think its something they can relate to a lot later on. i mean there has to be a reason ‘defective’ is the name of their fighting music) whats more, this also can explain pearls perfectionism. aaand additionally this can work with her reformation forms:

the ??? outfit would be the one she was born in, meant to serve white. later her hairdo changed to resemble pink more and she got new pants.
and the last thing, i think being rejected by her diamond and later serving the one she werent mean to serve could have given her a nice chance to develop rebellious tendencies. rose being around certainly didnt help either!
congrats if youve managed to read it all lol. its not all of the evidence im sure, but this is just what i remembered about. i rly encourage you to hit me up with any questions or critiques about any holes in this, im rly hyped about this headcanon and i want to make sure its as good as possible!
