• Hey, It's That Voice! #47: Ian Jones-Quartey

Welcome back to that awesome article that lets you look at the voices behind everyone it Steven Universe! It's time for "Hey, It's That Voice!" Today, we will be looking at the voice of Mr. Queasy!

You remember Mr. Queasy, right? Steven's little plush that he brought by accident in his cheeseburger backpack? Well, believe it or not, the voice of that little plush is the guy who helped make Steven Universe happen. Ian Jones-Quartey helped develop Steven Universe back in it's early days and, in my opinion, helped make some of the best moments of the show (and yes, that includes Mr. Queasy). In fact, he has lent his voice a couple of other times in the show, and has appeared in the show a few times as a background character!

It's the spitting image of Ian.

Ian Jones-Quartey was born and raised in Columbia, Maryland on June 18, 1984. He attended Long Reach High School in Columbia. He is the grandson of Theodosia Okoh, the designer the national flag of Ghana and President of the Ghana Hockey Federation for 20 years. Jones-Quartey designed Nanefua Pizza after his grandmother. Kiki Pizza and Jenny Pizza are also based on his cousins. While in school, he began working on his craft, particularly on his webcomic RPG World. The comic won numerous awards and, in 2004, was published by Keenspot.

Jones-Quartey first job in the animation industry was working as an inker on The Venture Bros. starting in 2006, before working his way up to art and animation director before leaving in 2010. In 2009, Jones-Quartey helped Rebecca Sugar with her School of Visual Arts animation Singles (including voicing the main character). He also worked as an animation director for the entire series of SuperNormal. After leaving The Venture Bros., Jones-Quartey spent three years working on Adventure Time from 2010 until 2013 as a storyboard artist and supervisor. While also working on Adventure Time, Jones-Quartey took part in writing and storyboarding for Secret Mountain Fort Awesome. After leaving both shows, Jones-Quartey began working with Rebecca Sugar on Steven Universe.

Wallow (Jones-Quartey) with his Blue Falcon in Bravest Warriors.

As for voice acting, Jones-Quartey has had quite some experience with two well known characters. He is actually well-known as the voice of the Wallow in Bravest Warriors.

However, there is one thing that Ian Jones-Quartey has going on for him:

A world I truly would love to be a part of.

Currently, Jones-Quartey has an upcoming cartoon, OK K.O.!: Let's Be Heroes that will be released in August of this year. As well as being the creator, writer, producer, and so much more, he supplies the voice of one of the characters, Radicles! Watch one of the minisodes about Rad below!

And that will do it for this edition of "Hey, It's That Voice!" Join me next time when we look at the voice of young Lars!
