When we were kids, especially if you were an 80's kid, a lot of TV shows were just a long commercial designed to push a toyline. Though that hasn't been completely phased out, a lot of shows nowadays are designed to be entertaining on their own, and a toyline may come as an after thought to a company. Even shows that have always been about selling a toyline, such as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, have seen an increase in quality. The new Jem and the Holograms comic features amazing artwork and at least on gay couple, and is a great reboot of the show. While SU only gets a brief mention in this article, I still found it to be a good read.
