• Crystal Mixtapes #3: Amethyst

It's that time again! That time of the week when Little Ursa shares the Crystal Mixtapes! You know, that article where I share what music I think fits with the characters and I ask you what songs you think fits the characters? Well, this week, we look at my favorite character of them all, Amethyst!

(Now remember, this is an opinion based article of Little Ursa pairing songs that he believes reflect the character. You are more than welcome to share your feedback in the comments, and even share what songs you might think could work. Click on the song title to listen, and on the musician name to go to learn more about them.)

Amethyst started out as the 'fun' and 'lazy' character who later grew into something far more. And I still absolutely love her all the same. But because of this (amazing) character development, it's a bit tricky to pair her with songs. But I tried and here we go!

    1. "Kiss This" by The Struts

Amethyst is rude, crude, and just fits this song so well. Can even see her taunting others by saying "kiss this".

    2. "In One Ear" by Cage The Elephant

This song is originally about how the band doesn't care how critics reviewed them, and I can see it for Amethyst not caring how others see her. To quote Amethyst herself, "I only feel how I wanna feel."

    3. "Best Of You" by Foo Fighters

A personal favorite of the Foo Fighters to me, I perfectly see this song with Amethyst's pain and anger.

    4. "Sick And Sad" by Catch 22

I know I might be bias when I say this, but I think Amethyst would be a big fan of ska punk, being in the center of the mosh pit. Anyway, I always thought this song was about hoping for better days and working toward such and, as of recently in the show, I'm sure Amethyst wants that.

    5. "Everything Sucks" by The Descendents

Hardcore punk at it's finest. Remember what I said about the mosh pit? Well, again with that, and I think these lyrics fit how Amethyst might feel a few times.

    6. "Just A Girl" by No Doubt

Probably the most well-known No Doubt song, this really fits how Amethyst doesn't want to be treated like a kid or something less than what she is.

    7. "Cool As Kim Deal" by The Dandy Warhols

Amethyst, in my opinion, is the coolest resident of Beach City (that's right, Buck Dewey, you're not number one). This song kinda seems like it would be something Amethyst could grove to (and drum to).

    8. "Sure Shot" by The Beastie Boys

I seriously feel Amethyst would be a big fan of the Beastie Boys. From their pioneering punk days to hip-hop superstars and back again. Won't lie, it was hard to just pick one song of the Beastie Boys. It was a tie between this and "Lee Majors Come Again".

    9. "Rebel Heart" by The Shelters

I feel this would be a total Amethyst song. Just a fun rock song.

    10. "Smile Like You Mean It" by The Killers

With all the stuff that's going through Amethyst's head lately, I'm sure she feels like it's hurting her to grow. I feel she is struggling to even smile during some of these times.

    11. "Bring Tha Noize" by Public Enemy feat. Anthrax

One of the original rap metal tracks from back in the day. This seems like a song Amethyst would hold close to her heart (if gems have hearts).

    12. "Let's Go" by Matt and Kim

Matt and Kim songs are bubbly and full of drums. I seriously think this is the best kind of song for her.

    13. "An Honest Mistake" by The Bravery

Fast paced song? Check. Fun drumbeats? Check. Music video with Rube Goldberg machine that I think Amethyst would love since it destroys things? Check.

    14. "Shake Me Down" by Cage The Elephant

Despite all of the struggles and drama that Amethyst has in her life, she keeps on going. Even when she is beaten down by Jasper or whatever she has putting her down, I see her still trying to look on the bright side of things. Perhaps that's a bit of Steven rubbing off on her?

Albums from the listed songs in chronological order

And that will do it for this edition of the Crystal Mixtapes! I do hope you enjoyed giving the songs a listen. But what are some song selections you think that would be fitting for Amethyst?
